While Nova Scotia Health responds to COVID-19 and gradually reintroduces services and programs, some service areas will continue to be impacted.

  • Appointments are required for all non-emergency diagnostic imaging services.
  • Out-patient blood collection services are by appointment only.
  • Nova Scotia Health’s Mental Health and Addictions Program are open and here to help. The provincial Mental Health Crisis Line is available 24/7 for you or someone you are concerned about, (toll-free) 1-888-429-8167. You can self-refer to our Community Mental Health and Addictions clinics, Withdrawal Management Services, or Opioid Replacement and Treatment Program, call (toll-free) 1-855-922-1122,  weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This line has voicemail only on evenings, weekends and holidays.   • All Public Health offices are closed to drop-in visitors. Booked appointments will proceed. If you need to rebook an appointment due to illness or self-isolation, please call your local Public Health office.
  • All volunteer involvement/programs at Nova Scotia Health facilities and services in the Halifax area and West Hants has been suspended until further notice.

If you have an emergency, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency department. The Mental Health Crisis Line operates 24/7 at 1-888-429-8167.

Home visits for home support, nursing, care coordination, home oxygen and equipment services may be delayed or cancelled due to widespread damage throughout the province as a result of Hurricane Fiona. Please call your service provider directly to confirm appointments. People scheduled to move into a long-term care home can call the long-term care home directly to confirm. PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING SERVICE CHANGES ARE IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AS PART OF OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19

  • All group sessions for primary care and chronic disease management and wellness. That includes group medical visits, diabetes centre group visits and classes, and cardiac rehab classes led by primary teams (not the cardiac rehab program in Sydney).
  • Appointments are required for all non-emergency diagnostic imaging services.
  • Appointments are required for out-patient blood collection services and walk-in service is not available. 
  • Cardiac Service:  Appointments are required for all non-emergency E.C.G.’s.  Please call for an appointment. 
  • Effective Monday, Dec. 21, 2020,  the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Water Laboratory will not be accepting water samples for bacteria or chemical analysis until further notice. Municipal, registered and private water supply owners are advised to send samples to an alternate accredited water testing facility. A list of alternate testing facilities may be found at:

TEMPORARY CLOSURES ​

  • Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital’s Urgent Treatment Centre in Tatamagouche will be closed Thursday, October 14. 

PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING CLOSURES AND SERVICE CHANGES ARE IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AS PART OF OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19​

  • Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche – During daytime hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, we are operating as an urgent treatment centre treating injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care but not serious enough to require an emergency department. We are open for urgent treatment when a physician is available. If a physician is unavailable, a closure notice will be posted above in the Temporary Closures section. A nurse practitioner is available on various days to provide care to patients with non-urgent health care needs. Those with an emergency should always call 911. The emergency department and overnight CEC are closed until further notice. 
  • North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash –  During daytime hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, we are operating as an urgent treatment centre treating injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care but not serious enough to require an emergency department. We are open for urgent treatment when a physician is available. If a physician is unavailable, a closure notice will be posted above in the Temporary Closures section. During overnight hours, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., we operate as a collaborative emergency centre staffed by a paramedic and a registered nurse with physician oversight. Those with an emergency should always call 911.The emergency department is closed during the daytime until further notice. 

OTHER SERVICES

  • Out-patient blood collection services now require an appointment; walk-in service is no longer available. If there are interruptions in service, you can find that information here.  Patients wishing to book an appointment online should go to  call 1-833-998-2499.
  • Appointments are required for all non-emergency diagnostic imaging services.

  • Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, is open reduced hours today and will close at 1 p.m., and re-open tomorrow, Saturday, October 15, at 7:30 a.m.
  • Digby General Hospital’s emergency department will close at 6 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Saturday, October 15, at 8 a.m.
  • Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, emergency department will close at 1:30 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Saturday, October 15, at 8 a.m.
  • Roseway Hospital, Shelburne, emergency department is closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, October 15

  • Digby General Hospital’s emergency department opens at 8 a.m. It will close again at 6 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Sunday, October 16, at 8 a.m.
  • Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, emergency department opens at 8 a.m. It will close again at 1:30 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Sunday, October 16, at 8 a.m.

Sunday, October 16

  • Digby General Hospital’s emergency department opens at 8 a.m. It will close again at 6 p.m., and will re-open Tuesday, October 18, at 8 a.m.
  • Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, emergency department opens at 8 a.m. It will close again at 1:30 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Monday, October 17, at 8 a.m.

Monday, October 17

  • Digby General Hospital’s emergnecy department is closed all day today, and will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18 at 8 a.m.
  • Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, emergency department opens at 8 a.m. It will close again at 1:30 p.m., and will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18, at 8 a.m.

Monday, October 31

  • Eastern Kings Memorial Health Centre, Wolfville, After-Hours Clinic is closed tonight from 5 to 9 p.m., and will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, November 1 at 5 p.m.
