Select Primary Care sites in Northern Zone will temporarily extend hours to support patients needing non-emergency care as the area continues to recover from the impact of Hurricane Fiona.
- Pictou County Primary Care Clinic located at 688A East River Road in New Glasgow will be open Friday, Sept. 30, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Saturday, Oct. 1 for people who do not have access to a primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner). People can call 902-752-8643 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday to make a same day appointment.
- Pictou West Health Centre located at 300 West River Road in Pictou will be open Friday, Sept. 30, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct.1, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The clinic is open to patients of the clinic only.
- West Side Health Centre located at 69 Abercrombie Road in New Glasgow will be open Friday, Sept. 30, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic is open to patients of the clinic only.
- One Door Chronic Disease Management Centre located at 688B East River Road in New Glasgow will be open on Sept. 30, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is open to patients of the clinic. People can self-refer by calling 902-752-7600, ext. 4700.
- The Parrsboro Urgent Treatment Centre located at 50 Jenks Ave at South Cumberland Community Care Centre will be open on Sept. 30, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. People can call 902- 254-2540, Option 1 to book an appointment.
- Truro Primary Care Clinic located at Suite 205-316 Willow Street in Truro will be open Friday, Sept. 30, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for people who do not have access to a primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner). People can call 902-843-2577 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday to make a same day appointment.
Types of concerns that may be addressed at a primary care clinic include:
- Prescription refills or renewals
- Minor respiratory symptoms
- Sore throat
- Earaches
- Fever
- Headache
- Rashes
- Minor gastrointestinal concerns (vomiting and diarrhea)
- Cough, flu or cold symptoms
- Urinary tract infections
- Muscle pain
- Minor pelvic pain or abdominal pain
The clinic cannot address urgent or life-threatening concerns. You will need to call 911 if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Stroke/facial weakness
- New onset of weakness
- Heart attack/chest pain or tightness
- Unable to wake/unconscious
- Sudden onset of severe headache or confusion
- Seizure and/or severe head injury
- Major assault
- Severe difficulty breathing or trouble speaking
- Uncontrolled or severe bleeding
- Major trauma such as loss of limb or laceration
- Severe allergic reaction
- Severe burns
Patients of these clinics are asked to call the clinics as they normally would to book an appointment.
Please have your health card ready upon arrival and bring a list of your medications.
